In the early 70’s the Jesus Movement hit Australia . A lot of us have been Rapture watching since then . I was too young to bother reading Hal Lindsay’s “The Late Great Earth”. But I was loving Larry Norman’s music. All of a sudden, being sold out for Jesus was cool & that was different. The book of Revelation was on everyone’s lips.
Youth groups had names like The Loft and The Nest – church met in coffee shops or made them as an add on the church building. What a time to be alive . I was 8 at the time.
Billy Graham came to town and my father went to photograph him at the Boulevard on William Street , Sydney. Dad met Larry Norman and Tom Howard in the lobby and brought them home ! What a night that was ! Larry in the living room eating frozen yoghurt – it had just hit Australia.
I was mesmerised – and performing little items on the piano. These were the days when you’d invite strangers into your home or flip side , you go to someone’s house who you’d just met.
This music shaped a generation and Christian Rock was born.
