BOB DYLAN
In 1980 Bob Dylan burst onto the scene with his 2nd Gospel album , ‘SAVED’.
On the 27 of February 1980 at the 22nd Annual Grammy Award show , Bob Dylan performed ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ . Broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in LA, he won best male rock vocal that year for the album ‘Slow Train Coming’ , released in 1979.
His performance that night was something else – The curtain went up and there was Bob, dressed in full black tie tuxedo , the audience fell out. And that band rocked.
The release of SAVED let everyone know, this was not just some passing fad for Dylan . He was serious. The music was serious . He received acclaim and scorn in equal measure. The Jesus movement was still in full swing making it’s way around the world. People were getting Saved! An apt title for the 2nd album of this trilogy. As is this song :-
